This project was a collaboration with hairdresser and film maker Peter Gray, who introduced Deborah to Aveda and was created to be shown at Aveda’s bi-annual Congress in Minneapolis, in October 2011. It was an exploratory project to see what was possible with very little budget and time, whilst keeping true to sustainable values.

The recycled denim was provided by a surplus supplement of second hand jeans from Japan. The challenge was to create a beautiful collection of unique couture pieces from this, traditionally, utilitarian fabric. This involved the use of unusual fabric treatments and natural dyeing methods, as well as, skilful cutting and tailoring techniques. Other workmanlike materials were used in the construction and embellishment of pieces, such as, hemp rope and large sail-maker’s eyelets, giving a raw edge to this experimental collection.
